Notes for Matthias I (Sension) St.
John:
The following is from Donna
Siemiatkoski (from the 'Founders of Windsor' (CT)
http://www.cslnet.ctstateu.edu/foundwind.htm):
Betty asked Donna: “How is Matthias St.
John a founder of Windsor?”
Donna: “You probably only know
of his later life in Norwalk. I
consulted the draft of my book on Windsor's
founding era, which I hope to publish this year. In it I have every surname in
17th century Windsor and the first
documentation of the individual. I have for Matthias St. John (Sension) that
his grant of land from the town was recorded on November 28, 1640,
the date many other grants were recorded, by the recent order of the General
Court. He started out in New England as a freeman in Dorchester
on September 3, 1634. He probably came to Windsor
with the rest of the Dorchester group in 1636. He was in
Wethersfield 1643-1645. He was part
of the group of Wethersfield people
who later removed to Norwalk, where
he died.”
